Why Python Leather?

We partner with INVERSA Leathers to source our invasive python leather. All Burmese python leather is ethically sourced, providing a sustainable alternative to your typical exotic leather products.

Python leather is soft and elastic, making it smooth and lightweight - perfect for the wallets we create. Of all snake leathers, python is the strongest, meaning that any product made with python leather is highly durable. While we prioritize the use of invasive python leather, we don't exclusively work with it.

The Negative Impact of Burmese Pythons
And what we're doing about it

Picture
Burmese pythons can be found throughout southern Florida, but they're native to Southeast Asia. Introduced to the United States in 2000, they now prey on native species and compete with other endangered native species. They are one of the greatest threats to the success of restoration efforts in the Everglades that have cost the state and federal government billions of dollars (literally). Burmese

The Burmese python is to blame for the decline of multiple native species, 76 of which have been found in the stomachs of pythons that reside within the Florida ecosystem. But pythons are smart, sneaky creatures. They've proven difficult to detect and trap because of how well they camouflage, live in difficult-to-access habitats, and their aversion to willingly enter a trap.

One reptile the Burmese python continues to prey upon is the American alligator, which has been making an incredible comeback from near extinction. You can see this exact thing happening on our Instagram here.

The Burmese python pictured to the right weighed "162 pounds and [was] more than 15 feet long at the time of its capture in 2009, [it] was caught alive in the Everglades and was found to have eaten an American alligator that measured about 6 feet in length" (source).

What's being done to mitigate the negative affect that Burmese pythons are having on native species? In 2017, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission launched a program called Python Action Team - Removing Invasive Constrictors (PATRIC) that pairs qualified individuals with nonnative constrictor control efforts. In about six years, over 18,000 pythons have been removed from Florida, 11,000 of which are thanks to this program.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission also holds an annual python hunt that is open to anyone who takes a training course on humanely killing pythons beforehand. The goal of this hunt is to find and remove as many snakes as possible, all without the use of firearms.

In September 2023, Francesca had an opportunity to participate in the python hunt with The Python Cowboy and Blood Origins, a global nonprofit we partner with whose mission is to convey the truth about hunting and promote conservation efforts.
